Demon Sheep Ad Man Strikes Again, Morphs Boxer Into A Blimp (VIDEO)

There are no demon sheep in this advertisement; nor derisive comparisons of Barack Obama to Paris Hilton. But the quirky political ad man who produced those two cult classics has introduced another memorable spot. This one, an eight-minute opus casting Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Cali.) as some sort of self-obsessed, Orwellian, hot air-balloon creature, floating maliciously through the skies of California.

The mind behind the madness is Fred Davis, a longtime GOP consultant whose quirky takes on traditional political advertising has placed him in the spotlight almost as often as his clients. In this case, former Hewlett Packard CEO Carly Fiorina is the one writing Davis' check and getting some unconventional, attention-grabbing and political puzzling spots in return.

Obama, Durbin and Pelosi All Point Fingers at Someone Else for Killing Public Option

Barack Obama says he supports a public option but claims there aren't 51 votes in the Senate to pass it in reconciliation. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin says he would aggressively whip the 51 votes for the public option if Nancy Pelosi would send him a House reconciliation bill that includes a public option. Nancy Pelosi says she won't include a public option in House reconciliation bill because there aren't enough votes in the Senate to pass it.

Meanwhile, over 40 Democratic Senators have signed a letter or otherwise indicated that they would vote for a public option if given the opportunity and it is almost certain to garner at least 51 votes if it actually came to the Senate floor. But every leading Democrat is doing everything possible to avoid an up or down vote on the public option and pointing the finger at someone else for killing it.

Gibbs Fires Back At Chief Justice Roberts Over Obama Criticism

The White House fired back at Justice John Roberts Tuesday night, after the Supreme Court Chief told a crowd that he found it "very troubling" that President Barack Obama would criticize the court during his State of the Union address.

In a statement sent to reporters, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said that the only troubling thing was the 5-4 ruling by the court, which said that corporations could spend unlimited amounts of money advocating on behalf of candidates in elections. Roberts leads the court.

Vetting Obama’s Judges: The Case for Chris Schroeder

Barack Obama has appointed fewer judges in his first year than any president in modern history. There are over 100 empty federal benches across the 860 member judiciary. Many jurisdictions face formal emergencies and certain court districts are overwhelmed.

It should be no surprise that Republican confirmation obstruction of judicial nominees is to blame. The indirect causation of bench vacancies, however, is that GOP obstruction has left the Justice Department's Office Legal Policy without a head for the past year. Senate Republicans have stalled Obama's nomination for the very office responsible for vetting, selecting, and lobbying for judicial selections.

DO WE REALLY NEED TO BLOW UP THE PLANET FIVE TIMES OVER?

Can the nearly bankrupt United States afford to spend billions more of borrowed money on nuclear weapons that are unlikely to ever be used, and which serve no useful military purpose?

That is the weighty question confronting President Barack Obama as he prepares his overdue Nuclear Posture Review. Each new American president must by law review his nation's nuclear weapons and strategy.

Bart Stupak, Dem Threatening To Kill Health Care Bill Over Abortion, Says Deal Looks Likely

TAWAS CITY, Mich. (AP) -- Prospects are good for resolving a dispute over abortion that has led some House Democrats to threaten to withhold support of President Barack Obama's health care overhaul, a key Michigan Democrat said Monday.

Rep. Bart Stupak said he expects to resume talks with House leaders this week in a quest for wording that would impose no new limits on abortion rights but also would not allow use of federal money for the procedure.

We’re in Trouble When the Radical Is Paul Volcker

You couldn't blame Paul Volcker for feeling ill-used. He was one of the first of the financial Brahmins to endorse Barack Obama, back when Hillary Clinton was a sure thing for the nomination. Volcker was an earlier adviser to Obama than Larry Summers, Tim Geithner, Bob Rubin, or the rest of the Wall Street gang. Then, after Obama became the Democratic nominee, Volcker was trotted out as a senior advisor and his prestigious name was dropped for a top administration post.

But then the dust settled, Volcker was given a largely ceremonial position as head of an advisory committee that didn't even meet until May, and his advice was largely ignored. Volcker's wise counsel was for much tougher regulation, including the restoration of the Glass-Steagall wall between commercial regulation and more speculative activities such as securities underwriting and proprietary trading -- a wall whose dismantling in 1999 laid the groundwork for many of the abuses that led to the great financial collapse.

Who Is Miles Regis?

When you first meet artist Miles Regis, his calm and peaceful spirit is as ever-present as his ultra-chic sense of style. With shoulder-length dreadlocks, self-designed clothing, and an inviting smile, Miles is the type of individual that strangers are immediately inclined to introduce themselves to. Like most others, they simply want to know... who is Miles Regis?

Based in Los Angeles, Miles Regis is a Trinidadian-born artist whose work taps into the emotions of the exotic cultures of the world and presents them in ways that are relevant to today's modernized society. His work has appeared in association with CNN, NextAid World's Day, CCH Pounder (Avatar, The Shield), Nicolette Sheridan (Desperate Housewives), American Rag Cie, Senegal's La Musee Borindar, Isaiah Washington (Grey's Anatomy) and several art communities around the country and throughout the world. With a style reminiscent of master painters such as Basquiat, Pollock, Gauguin, Dali, and Rivera, Miles' imagination is saturated with notions, ideas, and images, reflective of a world filled with conflicting interests. To that effect, the artist has been exhibiting works alongside Shepard Fairey, Ron English, Gary Baseman and other artists as a part of Manifest Equality, a highly touted equal rights gallery and series of events produced by Yosi Sargent, former NEA representative and head of the west coast publicity team behind Barack Obama's presidential campaign. During the event, Miles' exclusive backstage exhibit allowed him to impact change alongside notable celebrities like Marissa Tomei, Daryl Hannah, and Heather Graham.

From “Fired Up and Ready to Go” to “Tired Out and Staying Home”

There's been a lot of commentary about President Barack Obama's failure to construct a winning "narrative" for the elections of 2010. In 2008, there were millions of people "fired up and ready to go." But after a year plus of the Beltway-Rahm Emanuel strategy of never exposing oneself to political risk the grassroots energy of the campaign has been allowed simply to dissipate. Robert Reich argues that "if there was ever a time to connect the dots and make the case for government as a means of protecting the public from [corporate] forces. It is now." But at this point, about seven months before the midterms, transforming Americans' view of government is a tall task, especially when many of the George W. Bush policies have clearly prevailed. The problem with Obama's "narrative" lies in the substance of what has transpired over the past year.

1). Those who wanted single-payer health care didn't even get a seat at the table, (even though it's the most fiscally responsible of the choices over the long term). And then those who wanted a "public option" or a "Medicare buy-in" had their hopes dashed. These decisions didn't do much to keep health care reform advocates fired up and ready to go.
