House Speaker Nancy Pelosi appeared on "The Rachel Maddow Show" Thursday and weighed in on everything from Bart Stupak's threats to derail health care reform, to Eric Massa's resignation, and Republican obstructionism in the Senate.
While agreeing with Maddow that Rep. Bart Stupak is wrong -- there is no language in either health care reform bill that would allow federally funded abortions -- Pelosi told Maddow that she believes the Michigan Democrat wants health care reform and that he wold vote for the final legislation. "Bart Stupak wants health care reform. This is something he understands. He's on the committee of jurisdiction for it. I don't think that he's part... that he himself would be one to say that 'I'm taking down health care reform because of it.' But I think others who are part of that, who have stronger connections to the Republican party do want to bring down the bill."

Karl Rove Terms Al Gore “One Angry Dude,” Claims Missing Florida Ballots From 2000 Election Are “In His Garage”
Karl Rove has very few regrets. At an intense Q&A yesterday, the senior adviser to President George W. Bush defended the Administration on everything from the Iraq war, to campaign tactics, to its response to Hurricane Katrina. On the invasion of Iraq, Rove said that one of the few things he would have changed is coming out against the critics -- including Democrats who had voted for the invasion -- sooner when it was determined that there were no weapons of mass destruction.
"You've got to either hold everybody accountable, or you've got to drop this myth," said Rove, who recently admitted to the error. "This pernicious, corrosive, hypocritical lie that Bush lied about weapons of mass destruction."

Sick of the Health Care Distraction
I am sick of the health care being used to distract Americans from the real problems with our country. Republicans and democrats alike are using health care to manipulate the American public, me and you. One side is jamming it down our throats and the other side doing everything it can to stop it even if it has merits. None of us have a clue of what we are getting or not getting because of all the politics. And all this is taking place while neither side is doing anything to improve the conditions for our country.
Is anyone else out there other than Jesse Ventura sick of politicians getting us to focus on what they want rather than what America needs? Why can't the problems in our country be approached on the basis of priority and greatest good, rather than politics? The people I talk to everyday are concerned with jobs, opportunities, increasing their incomes, saving money and reducing the country's debts more than health care. Is health care merely a 'red-herring' to distract each us from what our elected officials don't want us to focus on? Is it possible that 'professional' politicians are using health care so Americans take sides against one another, rather than joining together to no longer tolerate political incompetence from both sides?

A-Hole Takes Part In iPod Bidding War (PHOTO)
We feel a little bad for this so-called "Caroline," who did everything right when trying to hunt down her lost iPod. But we have to side the rogue a-hole who has beautifully outbid her in "Price Is Right"-esque fashion. Sorry sister, but he deserves that iPod after a stunt like this. (via The High Definite)

Not a Game
Too often -- the way it's played and the way it's reported -- Americans might think everything that happens in Washington is a game.
But look, this is anything but a game. The business before the Senate is literally life and death on many issues, and the parliamentary tricks to delay and obstruct the basic workings of our government have real-world consequences.

The Enthusiasm Gap
I had dinner the other night with a Democratic pollster who told me Democrats are heading toward next fall's mid-term elections with a serious enthusiasm gap: The Republican base is fired up. The Democratic base is packing up.
The Democratic base is lethargic because congressional Democrats continue to compromise on everything the base cares about. For a year now it's been nothing but compromises, watered-down ideas, weakened provisions, wider loopholes, softened regulations. Health care went from what the Democratic base wanted -- single payer -- to a public option, to no public option, to a bunch of ideas that the president tried to explain last week, and it now hangs by a string as Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid try to round up conservative Democrats and a 51-vote reconciliation package in the Senate.

Make the Decision to Engage
A recent survey by the Conference Board finds that only 45 percent of employed Americans are satisfied with their jobs. Most of those plan to look for something new once the current unpleasantness is done -- presumably because everything will be red roses and caramel mochaccinos in the new workplace.
Bad idea. Whenever someone changes jobs in order to run from a situation, as opposed to going TO an opportunity, it's pretty much inevitable that the issues will follow, nipping at their heels. Within six months, that person will be hating the new employer just as much.

New York Fashion Week Green Shows (VIDEO): The Best Moments
What is stylish, colorful, and green all around?
The Green Shows at New York Fashion Week, naturally. Ecouterre captured the best moments from last week's fashion shows, where styles were flirty, edgy, and everything in between. They caught up with designers Samantha Pleet, Lizz Wasserman of Popomomo, JoAnn Berman, Leanne Mai-ly Hilgart of Vaute Couture, and Melissa Kirgan and Xing-Zhen Chung-Hilyard of Eko-Lab, discussing their individual visions and use of green materials. Each designer has a surprisingly unique approach to fashioning their green fabrics. For some, burying it in mud is the trick; for others, it's derived from wood pulp. How's that for one of a kind?
