On the eve of Passover, Israel has forgotten it is a Jewish state

Pesach is right around the corner. And while Israel will go through the motions of the holiday, it won't reach the spirit of Passover. Why?

Israel has lost its moral compass.

Please Pass the Allergy-Free Chocolate

I'm a chocoholic. I cannot help it. I think about chocolate. I dream about chocolate. I eat chocolate. On my first ever trip to Paris, I didn't care about anything else but getting to the tour at Maison du Chocolat. I'm interested in where it comes from and everything about it from cocoa powder to the weirdest chocolate of them all, white chocolate. So, when I was lucky enough to be on Sirius Radio's Martha Stewart Everyday Food Show during "Chocolate Week," I was overjoyed.

That event has come and gone, but now I have another chocolate opportunity upon me: Passover. The food allergy-sufferer's dream holiday! Well not really: there's still noodle kugle and the egg whites in the macaroons, but no matter, I like to look at this holiday for those of us with food allergies to shine. Flour, leavening and legumes are banned from this big day, but creativity is not.

Forget God, Drink Responsibly and Save the World One Person at A Time

The Jewish holiday of Purim begins Saturday night and it's a serious party. Imagine a more socially responsible Mardi Gras and you begin to get the picture. Costumes, food, drinking -- yes, that kind and lots of it -- are all part of the tradition. And so is remembering our own vulnerability, a lesson in how to raise ourselves out of it, and the obligation to give others a hand in doing so also.

Basically, Purim is a four-part exercise is having a great time, reconnecting with friends, celebrating the past and helping to make a better future. If that isn't a great holiday, I don't know what is. So here's the deal.

Vacancies Threaten National Security: After Recess, President Obama Demands Senate Action

It sometimes happens during the Valentine's holiday season. A relationship needs shaking up. A dysfunctional pattern must be broken. Sometimes it takes an ultimatum; things must change or else.

That is the message Barack Obama personally delivered to Senate Republican leaders as they prepared to leave town for their Valentine's Day/Presidents' Day recess. The president delivered his valentine - a recess appointment ultimatum.

The Virtual Valentine’s Day

Over 7 million people are in long-distance relationships; but in this economy, most of these couples can't justify the splurge of airline tickets and gas against this weekend's Hallmark holiday.

Luckily, we have technology to help keep the long-distance spark alive. From smartphones to online video calling, a special Valentine's Day can be no further than a click away.

To Wii or Not to Wii?

If that is your question, the answer isn't a simple yes or no. But you probably guessed that or this would be the shortest blog post in history.

Since the Wii Fit Plus came out just in time for the holiday season, you may still be in the swing of things, so to speak. Or, on the contrary, it may be sitting in a corner gathering dust.

‘Crystal Ball’ on the Economy and Labor

The nation went through 'Back-to-School' shopping back in August and September with barely an uptick in the economy.

We went through the longer 2009 holiday shopping season with only a slight increase in purchases over the dismal 2008 level - in December, retail sales actually fell 0.3%.

How Did You Spend MLK Day?

After 24 years of celebrating Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, I should have a game plan for how I want to celebrate this holiday -- but I don't.

Life was much simpler in 1986 when the holiday was signed into law and observed. I was in elementary school in Westbury, Long Island and there was no way that we could ignore the holiday. As a predominantly black and Caribbean community, we had mandatory assembly programs filled with civil rights songs, campy plays with a student trying his (or her) best to deliver the I Have a Dream Speech, and a chorus of Stevie Wonder's rendition of the Happy Birthday song.
