Tom Brady, Peyton Manning and their expiring contracts
Despite the ongoing labor battles, it is a minor upset that Peyton Manning and Tom Brady do not have contract extensions by now as camps begin. At the moment, both will become free agents in a matter of months. And, of course, they would be the bigg… Continue reading

Tom Friedman Wants to Raise Your Taxes
There are basically two views of the American people. In one, we’re the patriots ready to do whatever it takes for our country. If a crisis requires sacrifices, we won’t flinch when our leaders summon us to make them. We’re the people FDR asked not on… Continue reading

Arkansas Cop Killer Linked to ‘Patriot’ Movement
Jerry Ralph Kane Jr., the man who was killed with his son Thursday after apparently gunning down two West Memphis, Ark., police officers, traveled the country before the encounter giving classes in “redemption foreclosure mortgage fraud” — an apparent variation on a scheme common among antigovernment “Patriots.”
According to a blurb on a website called Pro Blog: Blog for Professionals, that was the title that Kane gave to an all-day class he gave on Aug. 29, 2009, in Fontana, Calif. In several YouTube videos of the Fontana class, Kane can be heard discussing such Patriot theories as the idea that only gold and silver are real money.

Jenny Beth Martin, Tea Party Leader, Says Movement Has ‘No Place For’ Racist Behavior
There is no racism in the Tea Party movement, according to the head of one of the largest national Tea Party groups.
“In Tea Party Patriots, we have no place for that,” Jenny Beth Martin said on CNN’s American Morning when asked about the potentially “radical views” of certain members. “If we see somebody who’s doing something racist, we tell them to leave our events. We’re there for our core values. We want to reclaim our founding principles in this country.”

Packers Schedule Released: Things Are Looking Up
The schedule was just released and I say bring on the Eagles . . . and the Bills and the Patriots and, of course, the Vikings. With the home opener against the Lions (blah) not until Sunday, October 3, Packers fans will be revving to go for some action at the Frozen Tundra. The first game is at the Eagles, the second at the Bills, and the third at the Bears. With opponents like the Cowboys and the Patriots, the Packers rank 22nd in terms of how hard their season is for 2010.
The cumulative record of our opponents for the 2009 season is 125-131-0. With the Lions and the Bears still expected to struggle next season, and the fate of the Vikings yet-to-be-determined quarterback, I think it’s safe to say that the Packers are in a great spot for the NFC North title.

Tea Party? Ha! More Like Me Party
Without a hint of awareness of any contradiction, the Tea Party Express and headliner Sarah Palin recently gathered on the Boston Common, one of the oldest government-maintained spaces in America — to denounce government.
They vented anger about a government doing too much. A strange complaint from self-styled patriots, given the crises this nation is still facing:

‘Climate Patriots’ (VIDEO): Fighting Global Climate Change Will Help Ensure America’s Security
Fighting climate change is not only good for the Earth, but apparently it’s also patriotic.
National security and climate change may not be the likeliest pair, but the two are more interconnected than you would think. “Climate Patriots,” a video presentation released by the Pew Project on National Security, Energy and Climate, explores how solving global climate change can make for a safer America, drawing on science and military experts to find new strategies.
