Gibbs Fires Back At Chief Justice Roberts Over Obama Criticism

The White House fired back at Justice John Roberts Tuesday night, after the Supreme Court Chief told a crowd that he found it "very troubling" that President Barack Obama would criticize the court during his State of the Union address.

In a statement sent to reporters, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said that the only troubling thing was the 5-4 ruling by the court, which said that corporations could spend unlimited amounts of money advocating on behalf of candidates in elections. Roberts leads the court.

Immigration Reform in 2010: A Limited Time Offer

On Monday, President Obama met with members of his Domestic Policy Council to discuss how to move forward with a comprehensive reform of our federal immigration system. The LA Times reports that the White House may recruit Senators Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC) to craft a "blueprint" that could be used for legislation. Ultimately, Obama will leave it up to Congress to overhaul our immigration laws.

It's unlikely that the House will pass reform first. Last December, a group of House Democrats introduced a bill to lay the foundation for large-scale immigration reform, but Speaker Nancy Pelosi made it clear that she's looking to the Senate to take the lead on this controversial issue.

9/11 Trial Reversal: Obama Advisers Set To Recommend Military Tribunals

WASHINGTON — In a potential reversal, White House advisers are close to recommending that President Barack Obama opt for military tribunals for self-professed Sept. 11 mastermind Khalid Sheik Mohammed and four of his alleged henchman, senior officials said.

The review of where and how to hold a Sept. 11 trial is not over, so no recommendation is yet before the president and Obama has not made a determination of his own, officials said. The review is not likely to be finished this week.

The Fabulous Fate of Desiree Rogers

When I heard that Desiree Rogers, the White House social secretary and intimate of the Obamas, was finally stepping down, my first instinct was to want to defend her. Rogers's resignation seemed another clear lesson in how intolerant Washington is of mold-breakers, especially any to whom the word (or slur) "uppity" can also be applied.

I, too, had once suffered career consequences -- at a much lower level -- as a woman perceived by others as a bit too "fabulous" for my own good. But Rogers's fall from grace is in many ways no one's fault but her own. From the moment The Washington Post broke the story that two interlopers had grin-and-gripped their way past Secret Service into the very first state dinner of the Obama presidency, it was just a matter of time before Rogers would leave Washington -- sooner rather than later.

A Terrible Mistake: H.P. Albarelli’s Investigation into CIA Scientist’s Murder, at the Crossroads of Mind Control and Assassination

"Where else could a red-blooded American boy lie, kill, cheat, steal, rape and pillage with the sanction and blessing of the All-Highest." -- George Hunter White, U.S. Federal Bureau of Narcotics

For well over half a century, the CIA (and its predecessor, OSS) has been violating the Geneva Conventions and the United States Constitution, subjecting the guilty and innocent alike to "cruel and unusual" treatment. H.P. Albarelli's A Terrible Mistake -- The Murder of Frank Olson and the CIA's Cold War Experiments, a fascinating and important new work of unprecedented depth (10 years in the making and involving numerous first hand interviews), pulls back the curtain on the Agency's diabolical mind control experiments and extensive efforts to assemble and analyze every known substance that could kill a person relatively easily, quickly and surreptitiously.
